Riding a Montana OHV Ranch Bull Run Guest Ranch, Cascade, MT Of the 14,500 acres in the ranch, selective thinning (logging) was conducted on a small portion many years back. Today the market is not viable for logging in Montana. You can ride many of the old skid trails and logging roads, as well as the ranch trails. Back in the 1940's, Leslie's grandparents built The Whitehouse cabin and established many of the ranch facilities. During the exploration of North America, Lewis and Clark camped at the mouth of Sheep Creek, which is now part of Bull Run. Old cabins abound. It's wonderful exploring today. More pics. |
The Sawmill cabin was named for the sawmills that used to be in the area. Ponderosa Pine grows tall in these mountains. Now the cabin serves as a hunters camp. |
Logging was popular in its day. Trees fill the valleys and gullies on the back side of the ranch, such as here along the South Fork of Sheep Creek. |
For this photo, I am standing not far from where Lewis and Clark camped during their trek along the Missouri River. |
Many of the roads on the ranch still serve the cattle ranching operation that has been going on for decades in these Montana mountains. Bull Run lies in the Big Belt Mountains. |
