One hour north of Las Vegas , NV , is the Logandale OHV area – a playground for motorized recreationists, built by grant money from the Recreational Trails Program (Symms Act) funds.  Red rock sand stone and sandy washes make up much of the area where designated routes are easy to find.  It’s a great place to ride and the Vegas Valley 4Wheelers put on a great event this year.

Stacie and I attended the Hump and Bump, met a lot of new friends, rode some awesome trails, and generally found the event to be very well done and fun to attend.  We recommend it.

The Hump and Bump is held the weekend after the SEMA show in Las Vegas .  So it was easy to stay an extra couple days for us to attend the wheeling event.  Registration starts Thursday night and the runs are set for Friday and Saturday.  Sunday is a travel day, or for those with extra time, it becomes an additional day of runs and fun.

Surprisingly for a desert, we found quite a bit of wildlife to enjoy in the Logandale area.  We were treated to close up views of desert tortoise and big horn sheep.  A large herd of sheep crossed the sandy wash in front of our jeep and Stacie managed to get some wonderful pictures.  These critters did not seem too bothered by rigs and people (although we maintained a healthy distance from the sheep and used telephoto lenses).

Club President, Rick Meece, said; “This year was our best year yet and the organizing crew deserve the credit.”  Russ Sherratt of the club led the charge and organized the event committee.  “We appreciate BlueRibbon Coalition being here to support our event.  We believe in doing it right and being responsible in our recreation,” said Russ.

The Hump and Bump is an annual event, so plan to go next year if you can make it. Learn more and visit the club web site at: http://www.vv4w.org.
