It will be used to patrol the trail and transport the really serious DUI's off the trail. Remember that if for some reason you or one of your friends becomes the serious DUI and has to be transported, the rig will either be turned over to a responsible driver, or left on the trail for later recovery by the owner.
And as we've been discussing this for some time, I want to assure you again that the El Dorado County Sheriff, as well as the other law enforcement officers on the trail, are not out to harass the average guy who might have a few cold ones at lunch or during a break. This vehicle and the law enforcement effort behind it is designed to protect our families and friends from the out of control drunk driver factor. This will also help save our trail from future restrictions or closures.
Our law enforcement officers/friends will also be on the lookout for severe resource damage, including creating damaging new bypasses and even radical alterations of the trail (rolling large rocks into the trail from other locations).
So once again, it's a common sense issue. Drive the trail. Enjoy the trail. Stay on the trail. Drink responsibly. Party hardy in camp if you like to do that. Pack out your trash (and human waste also if you really want to contribute an extra help to our efforts). We're going to keep the Rubicon Trail the crown jewel of four-wheeling recreation, but it will take all of us working together to do it.
