About Del Albright
Welcome to the home page of Del Albright. I’m an adventurer and outdoorsman who loves four-wheeling, writing, overlanding, camping, and photojournalism. As a dedicated career advocate for sustainable outdoor motorized recreation, I’ve built a career championing responsible land use and access to public lands. I’m also an internationally published author, member of the Outdoor Writers Association of California (OWAC), and retired Wildland Fire Chief with Army combat service in Vietnam.
For over 40 years, I’ve been writing, riding, four-wheeling,
and rallying for the great American outdoors and responsible motorized
recreation access. I fish, hunt, dive, hike, and love four-wheeling. My journey
began with a typewriter, compass, and a trail map, and it’s taken me from
combat in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam as a young Green Beret to the rocks of
the Rubicon Trail, the vast expanse of Death Valley, and the red rock country
of Moab, UT.
I’ve worn a lot of hats — usually a cowboy one. I’m an
author, photojournalist, land use strategist, advocate for sustainable
motorized recreation, Jeeper, and founding force behind a few organizations
that fight to preserve motorized recreation and keep public lands accessible
for all. Through my work with groups like the California 4-Wheel Drive
Association, RestoreTrails.Org, Friends of the Rubicon, Rubicon Trail
Foundation, and the American Sand Association, I’ve helped build bridges
between the outdoor community and the policymakers who shape our trails.
You’ll find me behind the wheel
of a rig built for adventure, camera in hand, telling the real stories of the
wild places we love — their beauty, their history, and the battles to protect
them.
